A make-ahead breakfast that’s creamy, customizable, and quietly powerful

This overnight oats recipe is one of my favorite ways to start the day. It’s simple, satisfying, and endlessly adaptable. The Harvard Nutrition Source highlights oats as an excellent source of soluble fiber, which supports heart health and steady energy throughout the morning. I make a large batch at the beginning of the week, portioning it into 12 oz glass jars like these, though any large glass container works well.

Here’s my prep routine when I am making a batch for the week: I measure ¾ cup of oats into each jar, then blend the milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt (multiplied by the number of servings) to ensure everything is evenly mixed. I pour the milk mixture into the jars, seal them, and let the fridge do the rest.

These oats stay fresh for up to 7 days, possibly longer, though I’ve always finished them by then. I love topping mine with frozen wild blueberries, and sometimes walnuts and raisins for a classic touch. It’s a peaceful feeling to open the fridge and find breakfast already waiting.
