For the past four years, my infrared sauna blanket has been a quiet cornerstone of my wellness practice. It’s more than heat therapy, it’s a weekly ritual that supports recovery, detoxification, and emotional reset. The Mayo Clinic notes that while more research is needed, infrared saunas may offer benefits similar to traditional saunas, including temporary relief from muscle and joint discomfort. Most Sundays, I carve out an hour to sweat, soothe, and simply be.
Why I Use It
The deep infrared heat offers temporary relief from arthritis pain in my hands and wrists, but the real magic is in the sweat. It’s my way of helping my body release toxins naturally, no harsh cleanses, just gentle heat and hydration. A study published by the National Institutes of Health found that far-infrared therapy may support relaxation, improve circulation, and reduce feelings of fatigue. It’s also deeply relaxing. I emerge feeling lighter, clearer, and more at peace.
My Setup
I lay the blanket directly on my bed, creating a cozy cocoon. Inside the blanket, I place a beach towel to absorb sweat, and I always cover my pillow with a towel—my head sweats too, and this keeps things fresh. I wear a long-sleeve t-shirt, yoga pants, and socks to help wick moisture and protect my skin.
Pre-Session Prep
Before I begin, I fill a large bottle of water and add three droppers of chlorophyll drops. Chlorophyll supports detoxification and hydration, and I sip it slowly after my session.
I also set a one-hour timer on my Google device. Since I can’t see a clock while inside the blanket, I simply ask Google, “How much time is left?” whenever I want a check-in.
During the Session
I turn on something gentle to watch—usually a show or movie that doesn’t require too much focus. The blanket session lasts a full 60 minutes. It’s warm, immersive, and meditative. I let the heat do its work while I rest.
Aftercare
Post-session, I drink my chlorophyll water and take a long, leisurely shower. Sometimes I am in the shower 30 minutes or more. The water feels like a soft rain, washing away tension and lingering worries. I do this in the early evening, and I always prepare for bed beforehand so I can fully relax afterward.
I might read, watch something calming, or simply lay in bed enjoying the deep sense of renewal.
If you’re finding this helpful, we’d love for you to share it with someone who might enjoy it too.
Pro Tips from Experience
These small adjustments make a big difference in comfort and cleanup:
- Cover your pillow with a towel — your head will sweat too, and this keeps things fresh.
- Lay a beach towel inside the blanket — it absorbs sweat and protects the interior.
- Wear breathable layers — a long-sleeve tee, yoga pants, and socks help wick moisture.
- Set a timer on a voice device — since you can’t see a clock, just ask “How much time is left?”
- Prep for bed beforehand — after your shower, you’ll want to stay in that relaxed state.
