How I Discovered Natural Hair Care That Works for Me

How switching to vegan, plastic-free shampoo and conditioner helped restore softness, strength, and new growth

For years, I’ve been transitioning to natural, plant-based products, choosing items with eco-friendly packaging and mindful manufacturing practices. In most categories, I’ve found a wide variety of effective, ethical options. But when it came to hair care, the search was surprisingly difficult.

I’ve tried what feels like half the shampoos, conditioners, and serums on the market. Especially since starting menopause, my hair has become much thinner. My younger self might have celebrated because styling thick hair was a challenge, and buns gave me headaches but now, with my scalp visible when I pull my hair back, I miss that fullness more than I expected.

I’ve tried supplements, thickening formulas, and countless products that promised results. None made a real difference. Until I found Kitsch.

A Radical Shift That Felt Surprisingly Right

Kitsch makes shampoo and conditioner bars with no plastic packaging, no liquid bottles, and no harsh ingredients. They’re vegan, plastic-free, and designed with sustainability in mind. I was skeptical at first. A bar? For shampoo? It felt like such a radical shift.

But it turns out, the bars are easier to use, easier to store, and easier to feel good about. They lather beautifully, last longer than I expected, and don’t leave behind waste. It’s a product you can feel good about using—both for your hair and for the planet.

Real Results, Naturally

Since switching to Kitsch, I’ve noticed real changes. My hair is softer, smoother, and most exciting of all—thicker. I’ve had new growth around my hairline, which had started to recede. It’s not as thick as it was before menopause, but it’s significantly healthier than it was with my previous brand.

I alternate between two formulas:

This simple routine has made a noticeable difference. And while I still occasionally try new products, I haven’t found anything else that’s both natural and plastic-free and delivers results like this.

Why It Matters

Hair care is personal. But it’s also environmental. Choosing products that support your body and your values is a quiet act of empowerment. For me, Kitsch has been more than a product, it’s been a turning point. A reminder that healing and sustainability can go hand in hand.
